Jeff Milles

Jeff Milles, MD

Dr. Jeff Milles is a fellowship-trained surgeon who has dedicated his career to the comprehensive treatment of hip and knee joint disorders. He has an interest in anterior hip replacements, minimally invasive total knee replacements, and outpatient total joint replacements.

Dr. Milles was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, graduating from St. Louis University High School. He attended the University of Missouri in Columbia for undergraduate training, graduating with Honors in 2008. Dr. Milles then completed medical school and Orthopaedic Surgery residency at the University of Missouri, serving in multiple leadership positions, including Class President for all four years of medical school and Chief Administrative Resident. He won the Allen Menard Leadership Award for two consecutive years at the end of his residency.

Following completion of residency, Dr. Milles spent a year completing his fellowship in the field of Adult Hip & Knee Reconstruction at the University of Arkansas, in Little Rock. There he trained with some of the preeminent leaders in outpatient and rapid recovery Joint Arthroplasty. Additionally, Dr. Milles helped author some of the recent literature on outpatient total joint arthroplasty.

Dr. Milles specializes in anterior total hip replacements, minimally invasive total knee replacements, and revision hip and knee surgery. He has an unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of his patients. It is his belief that the choice to operate is always a last resort with all acceptable interventions to be entertained in partnership with the patient.

Dr. Milles performs his primary hip replacements through a minimally invasive anterior approach. This approach, through the front of the hip, is muscle-sparing which allows for faster recovery, earlier unassisted walking, and accelerated return to work. He is committed to getting his patients back on their feet and on with their lives in an efficient and safe manner.

Dr. Milles and his wife Annie are thrilled to be back in Missouri serving the people who have helped shape their lives. They are excited to introduce their 2 young boys, Henry and George, to Missouri Tiger sports and St. Louis Cardinal baseball. In his spare time, Dr. Milles enjoys being outdoors, playing golf, and spending time with family and friends.

Philosophies

  • Anterior Hip Replacement
A relatively newer approach, anterior hip replacement tends to be more muscle-sparing than other approaches. Studies have shown the anterior or direct anterior approach can result in quicker recovery times, allowing patients to walk without the use of a cane or walker up to 2 weeks sooner. Dr. Milles has done hundreds of these approaches through fellowship training and in his practice.
  • Outpatient Total Joint Replacement
Dr. Milles and his partners believe that the best place for recovery is in the patient's own home. Patients tend to have less complications and recover more quickly the sooner they are able to get back into their normal environment and routines. However, Dr. Milles and his partners will always assure that the patient is ready to be discharged safely, working closely with nursing staff and physical therapists prior to making that decision.
